Our Story
TRIBE AS COMMUNITY SPACE
TRIBE curates music, art, and community spaces rooted in care, creativity, and collective power. TRIBE was founded out of survivorhood. It was founded out of the lack of expansive spaces for dark-skin Black trans and queer people. Created through our grief and disillusionment with popular art spaces we entered that left us feeling fragmented.
Through this experiment called TRIBE, we believe that community spaces don’t have to be in reaction to our individual and intersecting oppressions, but in spite of them. TRIBE is a space which asks attendees to actively practice the world they want to live in. Events flow between live music, movement, workshops, and community conversations to build slow, lasting networks of joy, resistance, and belonging. Inspired by West African teachings like Gidi Gidi Bu Ugwu Eze ("In unity, there is strength"), TRIBE is not just an event series- it’s a living breathing movement for connection, liberation, and shared transformation.
TRIBE AS MUSIC DUO
TRIBE is also a Black, trans-led performance duo blending vocals, movement, and live improvisation to create raw, genre-defiant soundscapes. Flowing between soul,blues, rock, R&B and beyond, we channel emotion and spirit into each set, turning performance into ritual. Rooted in community and care. TRIBE’s work honours Black and POC Queer and Trans stories, offering sound as a tool for connection, healing, and resistance. The duo curate music, art, and community spaces rooted in collective power. Centring Black and POC Trans and Queer people, we flow between live music and movement, We refuse to be bound by form and genre, We recognise that art in its living breathing state is fluid and mutable. Every note, every breath, every gesture is a proclamation that: we are here, we are creating and we are free in these moments.
